Lost a small terrier?

A small terrier was found today, 12/11, on the 500 block of Chimbo today, and now he is in our backyard until we can find the owners. No tag, but has a blue collar. We will contact CH Animal Hospital as well. If this is your dog, please contact esperakn_at_ gmail.com

He is very used to people and basically walked up to a man on our street- is quite dirty which indicates to me he’s been lost for a while now.

If no one claims him, please post where he is taken. I’d love to adopt him! I’ve wanted to adopt a terrier for a while now!

1. Get him scanned for a microchip at the local vet. It’s free!
2. If you don’t find the owner in a couple days, he should go to Richmond City Animal Care and Control, 646-5573, where they will hold him for 10 days since he was wearing a collar.
After that waiting period he would be up for adoption, Chanti.

Just sayin’, I would hate to lose my dog and not get him back because I wasn’t aware that there was some online neighborhood newsletter and some jerk off decided to just adopt out my dog to someone instead of taking him to animal control-the place one generally goes to look for lost pets.

And lost dogs can get gnarly (thin, matted, very dirty, injured etc) quick, so the condition the animal is in isn’t a good barometer of how someone cares for a pet and/or whether they “deserve” it back.

Whoa, All Bark. It looks like efforts are being made to locate the owner, and the people who found him are taking good care of him in the meantime. What would make you jump to the conclusion that the dog is in the hands of “some jerk off” who would just give him away to whoever?

Thanks to the folks who took him in. Hope you find his owner soon.

Update: We took the pup to CH Animal Hosp. where they did a little check of “Chimbo” (which is what we’re affectionately calling him.) No micro chip, somewhere between 3-8 yrs old, un-neutered (?) male, they think he’s possibly a pure bred yorkshire terrier. Full of fleas and very matted, thin, and haggard, so he’s gotten some food water and a warm bed for the night. Animal control did not respond to phone calls today, so will try again tomorrow. Chanti, keep an eye out at the Animal Hospital if you want him in 10 days! He’s SO sweet and a very nice pup. The man who found him on our street stopped by today and dropped off a nice, new collar, too.
Thanks everyone for the advice and input.

Correction: Keep an eye out at Animal Control if you want him, not the hospital.

Well, I kind of spend a lot of time in jerk off territory, so you know, I think that way.

He’s a cutie. I love yorkies! Thanks for taking care of “Chimbo” and checking for his microchip.

I found another male Yorkie covered in fleas and mange in September on N. 31st. He had a collar and was not fixed. I took him to Animal Control where he was cared for and then adopted to a loving home. Sad to see this has happened again.

There is a house near mine on 33rd street, 33rd and q or r. they have quite a number of yorkshire terriers in the back yard. It seems to me that they are breeding them. from what i can see through the fence, they are not so great looking. Im not the best dog owner in the world, but they are a little rough around the edges for my liking. You said you found the dog on chimbo? They lost a dog a while back, and we brought it back, they didnt seem to pleased about it….. maybe this dog is thiers? and if it is, i hate to say it but maybe it shouldnt go back.

Brittany, could you please get the exact street address and either call it in as a report to animal control, or post it here so I can call. Breeding dogs in the city without a breeders lisence is illegal. The animal population in Richmond doesn’t need a bunch of badly bred yorkies added to the mix. In addition, we seem to have quite a few “lost” and intact yorkies turning up in our area. I wonder if these folks are the source. The number for RACC is 646-5573.
