Suspect information for Friday’s 2 robberies

A message from Lt.Daniel Minton:

There were two robberies Friday evening on 23rd Street. It appears the robbery in the 500 blk of 23rd was not a random occurrence. The robbery in the 200 blk of 23rd street happened in a very dark block of 23rd street. The victim was targeted walking home from a local restaurant. Below is the suspect information from both incidents. If you have any information on this crime please contact Lt Daniel Minton at 240-9158 or by email at Daniel.minton@richmondgov.com

SUSPECT INFORMATION (500 Blk of N. 23rd):

Suspect 1 is a light skinned black male who is 23-24 years old. He is 5’08 and 150 pounds. He was wearing all black clothing with a black jacket with a hood. He has a thin mustache and a tear drop tattoo under his right eye. The tear drop was not colored in; it was just the outline of a tear drop. He put a black ski mask on when he entered the residence. He was wearing black gloves.

Suspect 2 is a dark skinned black male who is 26-28 years old. He is 5’09 and 210-215 pounds. He was wearing all black clothing with a black sweatshirt. The sweatshirt had a unknown type of logo on the left side. He wore a mask the whole time the victim saw him, but she could see a thin mustache through the hole in the mask. He was wearing black gloves.

#1 A black male about 20 years of age, 5’11 – 6’1, no facial hair, medium complexion and was last seen wearing a light colored skull cap, a dark windbreaker jacket, and dark colored pants. The suspect was armed with a silver handgun.

#2 A black male about 20 years of age, slightly shorter than the first suspect and was wearing dark colored clothing.

Get on it RPD! This shit is out of hand! While you guys are out writing parking and speeding tickets, there’s a ridiculous amount of this kind of crap going on.

Put cops on the street, put rewards on these guys’ heads, go knocking on doors, whatever you have to do. There’s at least three men walking around now who are a danger to the neighborhood (even if these guys are the same as the bus stop gangs). This should be your first priority.

There’s so many robbers walking around lately, it’s only a matter of time before they start robbing each other.

Why was the one on the 500th block NOT a random occurrence? When did that one happen?

I appreciate that the RPD is trying to put out this information, but specifying times (Thanks, John, for finding them and clarifying) and saying things like “not a random occurrence” don’t really help. Be more specific! Every detail counts–though in this case the descriptions are pretty decent!

It got the sense that RPD was using “not a random occurrence” because the creep followed the victim for a little ways. It’s sort of an odd usage though as I think most folks would still consider the victim to be somewhat arbitrarily chosen unless these two had some sort of a history of interacting before the crime (I.e., victim and perp had words at a bar).

“Not a random occurrence” tends reassure the public in that they would have some degree of control over crime happening to them. Nothing in this report makes that sound like it was the case but maybe there are additional facts.

In situations like this, it might be best to keep your theories to yourself. People want actual information, not your interpretation.

I saw the cops at the house on the 500 block. That house has had more than occurrence in the past month. Always arguments, yelling coming out of there. Police investigated a gunshot from there recently too.
