Council’s last chance to approve Riverfront Plan before deadline

JAMES RIVER ACTION ALERT

Richmond Riverfront Plan Under Attack. Your Help is Needed.
Urge City Council to approve the Riverfront Plan on Monday Night, November 26.

Despite an extensive 2-year planning process, expertise from the world’s premier riverfront planning firm and broad public support, the Riverfront Plan is under threat to be sent back to the drawing board. A last minute amendment proposed by land developers would delay the draft plan beyond the December 3 deadline and send the plan back to the beginning of the plan approval process. The delay would mean that current funding to begin implementation of the plan would be lost. Additionally, the amendment proposes to change the language in the plan on two key land parcels – Mayo Island and the USP/Tarmac site – from the carefully negotiated language included in the already approved Downtown Master Plan and remove reference to public parkland on these two parcels that are critical to the Riverfront Plan.

Please come out to the Richmond City Council meeting Monday night, November 26 to urge final adoption of the Riverfront Plan, or voice your support for the plan adoption to Council members by email or phone. Wear green and tell them that the James River is an integral part of Richmond and that you support approval of the Riverfront Plan!
