Chimborazo / World Citizens

Check out the videos (thanks to Elaine Odell and her Church Hill Studios) and web site chimborazoworldcitizens.org (thanks to Tom Oristian) created to support Chimborazo E.S. efforts as it is now a candidate school in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

We also invite our neighbors to join the Model School Task Force (next meeting Tuesday October 2nd, 7pm at the school) and donate your financial resources to this exciting initiative.

What a great website and very professional video. We are very lucky to have this effort at the heart of Church Hill.

Neighbors, please consider donating your time (join our Task Force) and resources (online “donate” link) to help us along in this effort. Also, let me know if you’d like a “Chimborazo is becoming World Class” yard sign. You can email me at matt.illian@gmail.com. We’re asking that donors consider at least a $50 donation for the yard sign. We would love to see these signs all over the neighborhood.

My son attended Pre-K at Chimborazo and is now in Kindergarten and we’ve come to really love this family. Every student who attends Chimborazo will get the full benefits of an IB education when we are fully authorized.

The videos on the new website are so inspirational. I challenge my fellow CH neighbors to watch without wanting to donate! Whether you have $5, $50 for a yard sign, or $5000 to share, this is a wonderful initiative!

I thought this was a program you test in to. If it is open to everyone, qualifiers and non qualifiers, wont that drag down effectiveness

IB programs at the Middle and Senior levels are considered gifted program. In contrast, the primary years program (PYP) will be in effect for all students. IB is a different method of teaching and learning.

Actually, when I attended the IB training in April 2011 I was told the IB at the Middle Years is a whole school approach just like at the Primary Years and schools who do the school within a school approach will not be re-certified as IB without going whole school.

Also, to answer #5, we were told that all students can benefit from the IB pedagogy since it is Best Practice, therefore, no one is “brought down” since effective teachers differentiate anyhow to make sure all students are being met where they are.

My daughter is a first grader at Chimborazo. Being a part of this school community has been one of the best parts of being a neighbor in Church Hill. Please consider helping us out with this IB effort- it will benefit many children in our community.

As an interested neighbor whose children are grown I have been so excited to be a part of this initiative. Strong education is the key for our future and a strong Chimborazo school will help all of us who live here in Church Hill, the greater Richmond area and our world. Please donate and help in any way that you can!

Quick update, our task force just learned that we were awarded $30,000 from the community foundation. Hip hip hooray.

HHB, I would add that our community is well served by efforts like this one which is truly for the common wealth. There are additional challenges to education in this community but the staff at Chimborazo and our supporting task force view this as an opportunity.
