Disappointed Evening 07/05/2012 at 8:43 AM

I was disappointed at the condition of Libby HIll Park for the gathering of probably 600 folks to see the fireworks on 3 July. We have a few opportunities to feature our beautiful community to the public and make a great impression on those using our parks. Unfortunately, Libby Hill Park was not at is best the other night with down tree limbs and fallen folliage which could and should have been cleaned up in advance of the gathering of folks on the Hill. I know the City is busy with clean up after the storms – but if we are going to invite folks to come up to the Hill to experience our vistas we need to make our parks as clean, neat and safe as we can. Making a great impression to the pubic is very important in light of the considerations now going on about use of the James, the parks and protecting the vistas. I am not laying the blame at anyone’s feet – rather calling ourselves to the opportunities to engender support from the public and others when we have the chance. I believe we missed an opportunity to put our best foot forward and perhaps gain some positive support for maintaining/keeping The View that Named Our City.

This falls hand-in-hand with tourists coming to visit us for our history and the state library who sightsee while here.

The historic buildings have been left to the elements and falling down with no pride by the city to buy or find investors to fix them up. It took 3-years for the city to even fix its own City Hall building from ice damage so that in itself is proof of the lack of concern by the city for tourist or things historic when it can’t or won’t even fix its own house.

Let’s not even get into the road conditions situation!

@1- Did you ever think about rolling up your sleeves and getting busy to clean it up? Stop whining and get to work!

Why not just take more money from education and schools to pay for all of this? This seems to be the general consensus of a failing city hall for everything else.
