Chiles Funeral Home director has license suspended

Style Weekly is reporting that Oliver P. Chiles Jr. of Chiles Funeral Home on Fairmount Avenue has had his director’s license suspended by the state board:

A longtime Church Hill funeral director allowed the body of a deceased man to decompose and embalmed it without permission, according to the state board that has suspended the director’s license.

The body of the deceased — called “Client A” — was delivered to Chiles Funeral Home from Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center on Sept. 18, 2010, according to the board’s findings of fact. It was left unrefrigerated for 72 hours and began to decompose, the findings state.

Wow, I hope this was just an innocent case of miss-communication!

Chiles has always been an excellent friend to the community especially when it comes to the very poor or those w/o enough funds to bury thier loved ones. Look at the continued years of great service from them and move on!

I don’t believe this was a mistake. My son passed in 2009. He was shipped from South Carolina with 2 bracelets. Chiles told me they think they were buried with him. Everyone who had contact with his body signed off. The coroner from South Carolina put them with his belongings. I believe they were stolen by him or his employees. My son was not buried until all monies were paid. I have 12 death certificates when I only asked for 3. It’s all about money. I suggest that everyone get insurance. He is one to prey on the weak.
