The new restaurant going in at 25th and M Street will be called The Roosevelt. They hope to have their SUP approved by the middle of April and open in late May or early June.
Best news we’ve had in a while, John. Thanks for sharing! I can’t wait to welcome them to the neighborhood!
This thread needs a huge thumbs up button!
Love the logo too.
I cannot WAIT! 🙂 Great news for this area!
I like the name! Their motto should be the same as Theodore’s “Speak softly and carry a big stick” Though I don’t know how you would apply that to a restaurant or food theme.
More like: “To some generations much is given. Of other generations much is asked. This generation of Americans has a rendezvous with destiny.”
I have high hopes! I was unimpressed by Que Pasa? and have been to Ipanema multiple times and have been equally unimpressed. I hope the same type of restaurant will succeed in a blue collar neighborhood where people don’t tend to have a lot of money to spend on eating out. I live a block away; I’ll be one of the first to wander over and try them out!
Maybe I should try Garnett’s Cafe…
OK, sorry. I have tried Garnett’s and I really liked it. I’m hopeful!
How about: “To some restaurants much is given. Of other restaurants much is asked. This restaurant has a rendezvous with destiny.”
Yes! That’s awesome. It should be written above the bar!
This is great news! Looking forward to having this new restaurant in the neighborhood!
I’m excited to have that chef back in Richmond!
Christo – pure genius 🙂
This is great news. We just bought a house in the neighborhood. Perfect timing 🙂
Yesssssssss! This is the best news I’ve gotten all week. Can’t wait to support another local eatery.
I can’t wait to take the 3-block walk to this place!
Oh, and welcome to the neighborhood, Gagan!
CHPNFAN: My wife designed that logo and Garnett’s too. Check her stuff out here: http://www.darlingoctopus.com
This is very exciting! And I bet the vegetarians of Church Hill will rejoicing as well!
I can’t wait to give The Roosevelt a try!!
This is the same restaurant that Kendra was talking about a while back right? I thought that was going to be under a different name (Buttermilk Palace or something like that).
Do we have any more details on what the menu will be like? Ipanema and Garnett’s are pretty different and anyone who could pull those two off is capable of any type of cuisine. The name “the Roosevelt” sounds to me like an upscale steak and cigar joint that would be in the lobby of the Jefferson. I’m very very curious to see what direction this goes in. Of course, I’m just glad to see new businesses here more than anything!
I and my wife are both vegetarians too this will be good. Can’t wait for it to open.
This is the same place. I remember reading a while back that she hadn’t come up with the final name at that point so she was just calling it Buttermilk Palace until something could be decided upon.
Kendra brought a sample menu with her to one of the UHCA meetings a while back. It looks quite good. Some apps, sandwiches, some entrees, etc. All looked nice. There were some carnivore options along with some veggie options as well.
Alex: The name is interesting to me too. While the font in the logo seems like it might affirm that mental image of old-timeyness, the quail perched on top seems to indicate a twist – something out of the ordinary. Just speculating. Though I was an early Fan of Ipanema, I’m out of the loop on this one.
Speak softly and carry a big breadstick.
The Roosevelt is at rooseveltrva.com / @rooseveltrva / Facebook.
Great news! I think you guys might have it wrong. Sorry to bust out the feminist rhetoric but I know Kendra a little and I think it’s more like…Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t – Eleanor Roosevelt.
