nbc12 moves into community blogs
09/20/2010 6:31 PM by John M
nbc12 has lunched a network of 15 community blogs (possibly a somewhat familiar idea…), covering places like Downtown (east of Belvidere?), Uptown (west of Belvidere?), and The Fan.
gosh, that does seem like a familiar concept.
I note that they do not have a Church Hill/East End community blog. Would that have been too obviously redundant or does our population density, etc. not qualify us for a separate page?
Interestingly, they dp have http://churchhill.nbc12.com/ which redirects to “downtown”.
With the exception of the Fan and Short Pump, the areas covered are larger (or *much* larger) than the scope of the grass roots community blogs that are in place. For the most part, the sites seem to be competition for the Media General publications in Powhatan and Midlothian.
It’ll be interesting to see which of these get traction, and how their approach might be different in 6 months or a year.
From what I’ve seen so far it amounts to a big yawn fest, but your point is taken. In time, they could get their act together.
The MG sites are companion sites for weekly print publications.
