Councilwoman Newbille, Delegate McQuinn,
Delegate McClellan congratulations! As I am growing in my role as School Board member for the 7th District it is clear to me that nothing gets done in a vacuum.
I look forward to serving our constituents and really seeing progress here in the 7th District. Quality education for all children is one area we have all committed to seeing become a greater reality.

I am humbled by the opportunity to serve
along side 3 ladies of distinction and public servanthood. Looking forward to seeing the East End of Richmond be all that it can be.

Only a little over 3300 voted yesterday in the council race? Does anyone know what percent of the registered voters this 3300 comes to? Kudos to everyone who did vote but I find the weak turnout shameful for the most part.

I am not overjoyed at having a McQuinn puppet representing us but I can only hope that Newbille will represent us better than McQuinn did. Perhaps we’ll see Newbille more often than Nation Night Out. Does anyone know whether she’s actually living in the house she still rents up here or is she basically living in Henrico?

Dag SEW – optimism seems to be one of your least developed traits in regards to Mrs. Newbille. How about engaging Mrs. Newbille in a dialogue – going Que Pasa tonight between 6 & 9pm to say congrats to the person that the district CHOSE by popular vote instead of chiming in with the negativity.

Speaking of shameful . . .

Did anyone else notice the amount of people that arrived at the poles by car yesterday. It seems that with such a tiny voting area and given the environment in which we live, unless an individual is incapacitated in some way, everyone should have been walking to the poles yesterday.

crd 11/04/2009 at 1:52 PM

JES actually I noticed a lot of people walking yesterday. I was at precinct 707 (25th and M Streets) from 5 to 7 p.m., and the one thing I noticed and commented on to everyone was how many pedestrians not only arrived at the polls on foot, but also the people just out walking their dogs past that corner.

Maybe you were at another precinct? Some of them, I wouldn’t walk to if there are a few blocks that feel unsafe, particularly after dark (which comes early now!)

Dag Duran Chavis – sorry I’m not that optimistic about someone who is obviously a McQuinn camp puppet and who I don’t really believe even lives in the district. Sure she RENTS a home here for the address but where does she live and sleep at night? And sorry but I don’t care to engage Newbille in dialogue…I have studied her record (along with the records of the other candidates) and didn’t feel she was the right fit for the district. As far as popular vote goes, the district has made mistakes many times before (humm….McQuinn perhaps???) so I’ll chime in with whatever negative comment I choose to. Sorry you don’t approve.

Someone once told me, don’t bitch about the government until you get out there and study the issues and vote. I did that so I do have the right to bitch as much as I choose. Just because I’m voicing my opinion on the candidate you obviously support doesn’t give you the right to reprimand me for my opinion.

Have fun a Que Pasa this evening and thanks for the invite but I have other plans.

JES,

I work full time – and not in the 7th district. I drove to vote on my lunch break because I didn’t have time to wait around in the morning due to a very important meeting. If I did nothing but sit around my house all day, then I probably would have walked but that is not the case.

It’s a long fall from that high horse you’re on.

Jes and crd, I was also at the same precinct and noticed a lot of folks walking. Granted I would have liked to have seen a lot more (just coming to vote) but many walked. Sadly, so many people rely on their cars for even a few block trip these days. Also, I have to agree with you Jes in that many probably don’t feel too safe walking even at dusk around here sometimes. Better safe than sorry…

She won with an absolute majority in a crowded field, pretty impressive. I’m guessing her agenda will only be lightly influenced by the CHPN & CHA demographic. I predict she will be a close ally of the Mayor, which I doubt will go down very well here. He’s quietly lining up votes to pursue his own agenda. He’s been pretty cagey just exactly what that is going to be.

Dear SEW

What do you do besides vote?

Congratulations McQuinn & Newbille you won by a majority vote and there are people who support you on everything you do. Mrs.Newbille, if you do follow McQuinn’s lead, I must say she a Wonderful person to follow. So inspite of what the HATERS say, i want to encourage you two to keep serving like you do. I am only 17, so i can’t even vote yet, but Mrs. McQuinn, i’ve been watching you for a while and you have made such a major difference in Churchill and in the lives of the people. You inspire me. I can’t wait to VOTE FOR YOU!

Sew, how long have you lived n Church Hill? You appear pretty bitter? Did someone hurt your feelings? You seem to be a pretty emotional not factual person!

I do believe we as people vote so we can have a candidate to repersent the district with integerity as well as to know how to do the Job that is require and i say Mrs. Newbille will bring that element to the table.

Liyah,

I have lived in Church Hill for 6 years now. I may APPEAR to be bitter but I am not…I just don’t hesitate to speak my mind. And no, someone did not hurt my feelings…my skin is a bit tougher than that. If I don’t care for something then I make that known. I might not be the most “PC” person around but then again I think the whole “PC” thing is completely overrated. Perhaps I am emotional but that’s because I care a great deal about this neighborhood and how we’re represented. Personally, I don’t feel McQuinn did a damn thing to better this area that didn’t serve her on self interests and I can just see more of the same coming from Newbille. That may be opinion and I do believe I’m entitled to my own…right, wrong, or indifferent. If you want to talk about factual, let’s talk about where Newbille resides…does she actually LIVE in the home that she’s rented up here? I seriously doubt it. If you can prove otherwise, I would be interested in hearing your proof…

MCQUINN YOU ROCK AND FOR ALL THE HATERS THERE ISN’T A DARN THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT AS FAR AS NEWBILLE WHO CARES IF SHE STAYS IN CHURCHHILL LONGS SHE DO HER JOB ITS NOT GOOD TO COMPARE OR JUDGE PEOPLE BECAUSE WHO THEY KNOW. YOU DON’T KNOW HER SO KEEP YOUR MOUTH OFF OF HER. I’M PRETTY SURE SHE DO BECAUSE THATS LAW I THINK EVERYBODY DESERVES A CHANCE. MCQUINN IS NOT CITY COUNCIL NO LONGER SO I KNOW YOU I GONNA LET HER DO HER

THE UNKNOWN ONE, read the First Amendment:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

isn’t it something that so many people love their neighborhood but detest those who live in the neighborhood Even those in office are our neighbors
My goes off to anyone who tries to improve the neighborhood and our city

SEW 11/09/2009 at 10:54 AM

Roc, I’ve asked several times on this thread for proof that Newbille is, in fact, a neighbor. No one seems to be able to produce that. She RENTS a home in the area to secure residency but where does she truly RESIDE? Henrico… My true neighbors reside in my community. Next door, across the street, and down a few blocks.

Reply
david 11/09/2009 at 11:46 AM

Mrs. Newbille, like her or not, has the ultimate qualification. She won the election. Before she could run, she had to be certified by the Secretary of the Electoral Board, and she was. If you doubt that determination, then there are circuit courts ready to hear the challenge. But the burden will lie on you to prove that she is not a resident.

unknown, it IS about English if you want to express your opinion since that is the language we all tend to understand. I’m still trying to figure out what the hell you were trying to say in #28.

Since the Seventh District is so diverse, I’m curious what criteria you will use to determine whether Mrs. Newbille, or any council member, is representing the district, or the city, well.
