Public housing residents “concerned about proposal to eliminate housing projects”

10/19/2005 10:10 PM by is reporting that many public housing residents showed up at City Hall Wednesday to voice their concerns to City Council about the RRHA’s plan to do away with housing projects.

From the article:

Some Richmond residents are voicing concerns about an idea to do away with housing projects in the city. They fear the plan would ultimately leave them with no place to live.

The controversy stems from an idea to let these residents choose where they live. The proposal would break-up housing projects by giving families vouchers to move into private apartments in other parts of the city.

The only problem is residents say it’s hard enough now finding properties to accept vouchers. Put thousands of families in that position and you’ll have thousands of Richmond residents on the street.
