From the RTD article ‘Wilder: ‘I will be a mayor of the people – all of the people”: “While crisscrossing the city yesterday, Wilder drove by the site of his childhood home in Church Hill at 28th and P streets. He pointed to where the butcher, movie theater and ice house used to be. He bemoaned the boarded-up houses and overgrown lots in the neighborhood and promised he would step up code enforcement as mayor. “The area is going to be cleaned up,” he said. “Yes, it is going to change. And it doesn’t take a great deal – but will – to do it.” Wilder said he wants to strengthen the link between Church Hill and Shockoe Bottom. During his victory speech, he said he wants to “drive crime into the ground” and will support public education that “lifts people.”‘
