Huotari still dreams of King’s Retreat
We first met him in 2008, but the RTD is including Robert Huotari in their series of 2009 profiles:
Huotari’s plan was to cater to the elite — guests who could have their laundry done, their car detailed and their kids minded while enjoying a fine meal accompanied by dancing and singing maidens. The dining room would also be set up to handle executive meetings, complete with assistants to help out, he said.
“If the economy comes back . . . I’ll jump back on it,” Huotari said. “It’s never going to be dead in my mind.”

Huotari reveals more on the King’s Retreat
The RTD has Robert Huotari on video explaining his vision for the members-only King’s Retreat proposed for Glenwood Avenue:
Diners at his restaurant will be able to fully customize their experience, from the size of food portions they receive to individual sound and climate control.
Stage performances — reminiscent of classic Broadway shows or Hollywood movies — will occur throughout the night, offering entertainment and employment to talented locals, he said.
“If you think of his venture as show biz, I think the show bit is tremendous,” said Keith Martin, managing director of the Richmond Ballet who knows Huotari because he is a patron of the ballet.

The city’s Land Use Log(PDF) has an POD to open The Kings Retreat at 3700 East Broad Street:
Each table will receive the dedicated services of a King’s Maiden, an intelligent, talented, and attractive woman. Her goal is to make our guests feel pampered. She will be equipped with wireless communications to convey your wishes to the rest of our staff. She is versed in the use of our wi-fi internet and intranet systems and can also function as an assistant for business meetings.
