a short history of the Central Lunatic Asylum
The Fairmount area contained a few non-residential developments prior to 1890 that helped to shape the neighborhood as it displaced them. The most important of these was the Central Lunatic Asylum, built on property originally part of a military hospital during the Civil War. The southern edge of the grounds was S Street, which later became Fairmount Avenue.

Habitat for Humanity’s Pillars at Oakmont
Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity has announced plans to build The Pillars at Oakmont, 15 single-family, energy-efficient row houses at T and 33rd Streets. Twelve units will be sold at discounts (~$90,000), the remainder will be sold at market value (~$175,000 to $210,000). [via]

local man linked to Chesterfield murder is found dead
A man allegedly linked to the Dec.13 killing of Anna Callear-Kirby in Chesterfield was found overdosed in a rooming house at 23rd and T Streets at about 4PM yesterday. Police report that the man may also have been responsible for a recent armed robbery and assault at a bank, and was suspected in the robbery of a CVS Pharmacy at 23rd and Main Streets last week.
