all neighborhood schools are fully accredited
The Virginia Department of Education released the data on the School Accreditation Status for 2008-2009 today and all of the neighborhood schools are designated as Fully Accredited. Congratulations to Chimborazo Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, George Mason Elementary, Fairfield Elementary, Woodville Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr Middle School, Armstrong High School, and Franklin Military Academy!

brawl at Martin Luther King Middle School
There was a ruckus among students yesterday at Martin Luther King Middle School at the end of the school day:
Some parents are upset with Richmond Police after a brawl at Martin Luther King Middle School spills over into Mosby Court. The fight happened Wednesday after school let out. Police came and disbursed the crowd and some parents claim they used excessive force. One juvenile faces disorderly conduct charges.

new & renovated schools plan revisited
A draft update on the school system’s facilities master plan, a step toward Mayor L. Douglas Wilder’s “City of the Future”, was presented to City Council last night. The plan includes efforts to replace George Mason Elementary and Woodville Elementary, renovate and add to Martin Luther King Jr. Middle, and evaluate Bellevue Elementary School for closing. [via]

all neighborhoods schools accredited
The State Department of Education today released the data on the School Accreditation Status for 2007-2008. All of the neighborhood schools are designated as Fully Accredited except for Martin Luther King Middle School which is designated Accredited with Warning, with the warning coming in history (having met the benchmarks in both math and English).
