a proposal to revisit new construction in Old&Historic districts
Laura Daab is proposing that the Commission of Architectural Review (CAR) change their guidelines concerning new construction in Old & Historic Districts (PDF) so that new homes would much more closely replicate historic existing structures on the block. Saying that CAR does a fairly good job with rulings on existing buildings, Daab states, “I think that they have a lot to learn (or should I say, unlearn) about in-fill and new construction.”

ACORN Special Awards announced
The Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods announced the recipients of its special awards to be honored at the annual Golden Hammer Awards celebration in October, including special recognition for Laura Daab for the Church Hill North Historic District Initiative. Winners of Golden Hammers in the categories of Best Residential Renovation, Best Commercial Renovation and Best Infill will be named at the event.

There will be public meeting July 11th at 7pm at EDI (700 North 25th Street) to discuss the proposed Church Hill North Old & Historic District. This meeting is for property owners only. While others will not be barred from the meeting, organizers are not encouraging outside influences to attend.
