The Virginia Department of Education today released the 2010-2011 accreditation numbers based on last year’s Standards of Learning (SOL) scores. For the 3rd year in a row, all of the neighborhood schools are fully accredited (2009, 2008). Statewide 98% of schools are accredited, and all Richmond Public schools are accredited.
The Virginia Department of education has announced that 5 of the 8 neighborhoods schools (62%) made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) towards the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) objectives during 2009-2010. George Mason Elementary and Martin Luther King Middle School were usually mentioned as being near the top of any list, but perhaps not any longer. wtvr has details on an overnight fire that destroyed the playground at George Mason Elementary: Fire crews were called to the school at 3:30 this morning. [...] When Richmond fire crews got to the school they saw flames shooting 30 feet into the air. The fire melted most of plastic playground equipment.

The State Department of Education today released the data on the School Accreditation Status for 2007-2008. All of the neighborhood schools are designated as Fully Accredited except for Martin Luther King Middle School which is designated Accredited with Warning, with the warning coming in history (having met the benchmarks in both math and English).
