1 + 29 trees for Jefferson Park

Friends of Jefferson Park met last Saturday to decorate the park and light the tree in Jefferson Park. Their next project is this Saturday, 12/15 @ 8:30AM to assist with the planting of the trees in the park, “a wonderful opportunity to give a gift to future park users”. All are encouraged to come out and help plant trees!

From the minutes of the 11/28 joint meeting of Union Hill Civic Association and Friends of Jefferson Park at the Cedar Street Baptist Church (FOJP Minutes / UHCA Minutes): announcement of and invitation to the Dec. 8th lighting of the Jefferson Park Holiday Tree (9AM, bring your coffee, they’ll have danishes!!!) and the declaration of Venable Street as a “Prostitution Free Zone”.

UHCA/FoJP joint meeting on Wednesday
The Friends of Jefferson Park and the Union Hill Civic Association will hold a joint meeting this Wednesday, November 28 at 7PM at Cedar Street Baptist Church, in the fellowship hall (23rd Street entrance). The agenda includes reports on and discussion of ongoing neighborhood improvement initiatives and holiday activities. In addition, the Study Group for the Union Hill Old and Historic District will also give a report.

Jefferson Park update
From the Friends of Jefferson Park: It appears that there has been some ongoing vandalism in Jefferson Park. Two nights in the last week, a couple of the heavy ornamental trash cans were ripped off their pads and thrown down the hill. In addition, there was some damage to a board on the horseshoe pit. For some good news, it appears that the new water fountain has been installed.

Combined Friends of Jefferson Park/Union Hill Civic Association meeting set for 7/30
A joint meeting of the Friends of Jefferson Park and Union Hill Civic Association has been set for July 30 @7PM. Meet at Qué Pasa, at the intersection of 25th and M, to learn about the status of owner John Sanchez’s application for a special use permit. Other items on the agenda may include an update on the proposed rezoning of 1903 East Marshall Street and a report on the first meeting of the exploratory committee looking into the possibility of a Union Hill Old & Historic District.
