funerals for 2 young shooting victims
The funeral for 16-year-old Ricky M. Burton, who was shot Aug. 10 in Henrico County, is today at 1 PM at Chiles Funeral Home on Fairmount Avenue. The funeral for 5-year-old Dominique Carter is tomorrow at noon, also at Chiles Funeral Home. [via]

notes from the 7th District Meeting
About 35 people showed up Saturday morning for the 7th District Meeting hosted by Delores McQuinn at Mt.Tabor Baptist Church on Fairmount Avenue. The meeting agenda included the city budget conflict, the Downtown Master Plan (and Echo Harbor), crime, and community concerns.

a lack of community spirit
The house at 2109 Fairmount Avenue is for sale by an absentee owner, Belinda Bentley, and has been on the market for some time. The realtor is the Chesterfield-based MAP Investments & Realty. Neither seem to care that the house sits vacant and the yard has grown wild this summer.

robbery and shooting on Fairmount Ave
An unidentified man was shot in the hip shortly after 4AM in the 1800 block of Fairmount Avenue. The victim told police that he was robbed by 3 men armed with a rifle and pistols. [via]

massive house fire on Fairmount
The long-empty house at 2008 Fairmount Avenue burned this morning, blanketing the immediate area in heavy smoke. Neighbors at the scene said that 2 individuals, a man and a one-legged woman, had been living in the back of the house. There is no word on if they are ok or how the fire started.

another house gone
A grand and partially burnt house at 20th and Fairmount was demolished today. It had looked like this house might be getting worked done, but I guess not.

house fire at Fairmount Avenue and 20th Street
A fire broke out at Fairmount Ave. and 20th St. and quickly spread to another house next door. It just after 4 PM Tuesday and within minutes thick plumes of smoke could be seen several miles away. At this time, there was no word on injuries or a cause for the fire. [via]
