Fairmount DHR application now available
As promised at the October 11 meeting at EDI, the Fairmount draft application to the National Register of Historic Places (PDF) has now been made available. This 121-page document includes a resource inventory with information on each of the 700+ buildings in the area, a description of the architectural styles in the area, and a detailed history of the area. Also included with the application is a a detailed map of the area (PDF).

Fairmount closer to the National Registry
The next meeting in the process of nominating the Fairmount area for both the Virginia and National Registries of Historic Places (and follow-up to last February’s meeting) took place Tuesday night at EDI. Ann Andrus and Kristin Kirchen of the Department of Historic Resources presented information about the application process so far and opened the floot for public comment.

Fairmount Historic District follow-up

The Department of Historic Resources has a announced the follow-up to last February’s initial meeting considering nominating the Fairmount Historic District for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. A meeting will be held Oct.30 @7PM at EDI to present and explain the nomination process, to hear public comment, and to answer questions.

The Virginia Department of Historic Resources maintains a record of the registration forms for the National Register of Historic Places for properties and neighborhoods around the state, with Richmond heavily represented. Some interesting area forms include those for Oakwood-Chimborazo (5.6MB PDF), Church Hill North (2.3MB PDF), Union Hill (4.9MB PDF), and the St.John’s Church Historic District (373k PDF). The site also includes maps and photos.

Fairmount historic resource survey Q&A at EDI
Recently, the Fairmount neighborhood was surveyed towards possible registration as a National Historic District. 50 folks or so turned out tonight for a follow-up Q&A to discuss the results so far.

Rehabilitation Tax Credit Open House
There will be a Rehabilitation Tax Credit Open House at the Department of Historic Resources’ Richmond offices on August 5th from 9-12 noon.
