Henrico County police are looking for Lakendra A. Lathon, 19, of the 2100 block of East Clay Street, for attempted robbery, robbery, malicious wounding and firearms charges stemming from a Nov. 27 incident in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the 3400 block of Howard Road. [via]

Two police officers are recovering after an accident just before 4:30am at the intersection of 31st and Clay Streets. The driver of a Ford Expedition did not stop at the intersection, crashing into the police cruiser. Charges may be pending against the driver of the Expedition.[via]

Richmond housing chief owns vacant, blighted property
The RTD reported yesterday that “Freed G. Etienne took office yesterday as the city’s first deputy chief administrative officer in charge of housing, land use and community development”. He is the “new housing boss to spearhead efforts in community development”. Here is the rub: Etienne is the owner of at least one property in the neighborhood that has been vacant and blighted for years. This is how you develop a community?

I’ve heard recently that 1) there have a been a rash of day-time burglaries around the 1000 block of 22nd Street (quickly in and out, through the back door), 2) that there have been recent rezoning requests for some of the light-industrial areas between 17th and 18th at Clay Street (to allow for commercial and residential use [aka apartments and condos]), and 3) that Ellwood-Thompson’s has bought the old Chimbo Mart.

A juvenile has been arrested in last Thursday’s shooting at 21st and Clay Streets. Police say they also have strong leads on a second suspect.

nbc12 is reporting a nonfatal shooting at 21st and Clay Streets today. A contractor was shot in the leg while attempting to stop someone from stealing his tools.
