With Church Hill Herbs and Florist having seen their final days, what would be a good business for location?

The Everything Goes Thrift Store opens TODAY at 9AM at 2242 Venable Street in the long-ago Fairmount Service Station.

Carolyn at Church Hill Herbs sends in word that she is closing shop:

I am closing the shop… most everything is 50% off, gift merchandise and 40% off on wine. We have desks, file cabinets and shelving that is priced separately. Store closes March 15th.

Dean Alshami’s Mosby Market & Deli at T and Mosby Street is a successful corner store that doesn’t sell any alcohol and has created jobs for nearby residents. What’s next? Alshami has acquired the old Sunny Market and has a plan for it…

In a brief conversation Saturday, Alshami said that he is working towards splitting the larger grocery store into 6 retail spaces. He wants to attract business back to the main commercial corridor of the neighborhood, and he wants the business to reflect the needs and desires of the neighborhood.

Alshami’s brother Ed (above in blue) was glad to give me a tour of the Mosby Market & Deli. He detailed the over $100,000 in improvements that were recently made to the building and shared plans to begin delivery in the nearish future.

I live in Church Hill and I have called six pizza delivery places and all told me they don’t deliver to my neighborhood. I called the Domino’s at Belvidere near VCU, I called the Pizza Hut on Broad near the Science Museum, I called Channello’s in the east end and on the Boulevard, I called Assante’s and I called Papa John’s on Main near VCU.

According to their websites, Domino’s, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s don’t deliver to my neighborhood.

Has anyone had better luck?

Monday of last week (2/1), my wife’s car will not start. We get it towed to Duke’s, and that afternoon Doug calls to tell me he thinks he knows the issue & will get back to me in the morning. We did not hear back on Tuesday, but figured give him the benefit of the doubt. Called & left a message Wednesday, then again on Friday, none of which gets a response. I called again yesterday, Monday 2/8 only to find it rings off the hook & the answering machine no longer picks up. Called again this afternoon – same thing.

I just tried to call & see if they were open and the phone rang and rang. Anybody have a more direct contact or info?

Davinci’s is open, GlobeHopper said that they’d be open, the busses are running, all of the corner stores seem to be doing business… The library and the dump are closed. Anybody in striking distance know if Buzzy’s, the Hill Cafe, Patrick Henry’s, CVS, or the Market are open?
