Bellevue ES, Fairfield ES scores among top tier in the city

The statewide SOL scores from the 2014-2015 school year were released today.

A quick glance at the data shows that Bellevue ES successfully bounced back from the year before, and that Chimborazo ED held steady – a good sign for school undergoing change in the administration. Fairfield Court, the only Fully Accredited school in the area last year (and one of 11 citywide), continues to put up great numbers. On the flip side, though, the scores at MLK MS and Woodville ES continue to be among the worst in the city.

State accreditation ratings will be issued this fall based on these numbers, following the adoption by the Board of Education of revised accreditation standards aligned with legislation approved by the 2015 General Assembly.

The Fairfield story is great to see. Too often we hear people say that some schools just can’t succeed no matter what because they have a disadvantaged base. This seems to indicate otherwise. Hopefully they can retain their staff and this doesn’t turn out to be an Atlanta story in a few years.

Honestly, the MLK scores are disgraceful. It makes me sick to think of the money that is invested in each and every student there – and at the end of the day, we get a 25% pass rate. That’s not good enough…how is this even acceptable? Where is the outrage?

@G. – teachers have been talking about about the deteriorating condition of the school culture at MLK for years, first privately and then publicly. I taught at MLK until a few years ago, and it was apparent from early on that Dr.Harris as a principal was going to be a disaster to the already challenged school.

RPS administration has taken the steps of shuffling the teaching staff and bringing in a new principal from outside of the system. For everyone’s sake let’s hope he’s the man for the job.

Where can I find the numbers for Fox, Holton, Mumford, etc. to compare with our neighborhood schools? I have often heard that Bellevue, in particular, holds its own city-wide.

The citywide data is available here: http://brooklandpark.net/bp/richmond-sol-scores-from-2014-2015/

As recently as 4 years ago, Bellevue was given a waiver for high achievement after scoring 95% or higher across all four tested subjects for 2 straight years:
