The 2011 Armstrong High football schedule kicks off this Fri 8/19 5PM with a home scrimmage vs. Huguenot High School. The season officially begins Fri 9/9 with a home game vs TJ.

Armstrong falls to Midlothian

The Armstrong Wildcats fell to 3-3 with last night’s 35-0 loss to the Midlothian Trojans (2-4). The Wildcat’s hopes for a winning season look slim with the last 4 games of the season coming up: #7 Highland Springs (5-1), Atlee (5-1), Varina (3-3), and #2 Hanover (5-0).

Style recognized Davis-Holloway, Patton, Wijesooriya, Widmer

The 2010 Style Top 40 Under 40 gives props to a handful of folks with connections to the East End: Armstrong teacher Amanda Davis-Holloway, Camp Diva founder Angela W. Patton, Blue Sky Fund’s Lawson Wijesooriya, and East End Fellowship co-pastor Corey Widmer.

RPS graduates 72% on-time in 2010

The Virginia Department of Education today released on-time graduation numbers for the state, schools systems, and individual schools for the class of 2010. For this class, Richmond Public Schools had an on-time graduation rate of 72% and a cohort graduation rate of 74.6%. The state-wide on-time graduation rate was 85.5%.

All neighborhood schools meet SOL marks

The Virginia Department of Education today released the 2010-2011 accreditation numbers based on last year’s Standards of Learning (SOL) scores. For the 3rd year in a row, all of the neighborhood schools are fully accredited (2009, 2008). Statewide 98% of schools are accredited, and all Richmond Public schools are accredited.

Armstrong takes TJ 39-12

Like last year, the now 1-0 Armstrong Wildcats open the football season with a win over Thomas Jefferson: Wildcats 39, Vikings 12. Next up is the home opener against John Marshall at 9/17 5PM.

VDOE releases AYP numbers for 2010-2011

The Virginia Department of education has announced that 5 of the 8 neighborhoods schools (62%) made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) towards the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) objectives during 2009-2010. The 2010 Armstong High football schedule kicks off September 10 with an away game at TJ. The ten game schedule inlcudes only three home games (with John Marshall, Henrico, and Hanover).

Teens want safe neighborhoods and to buy clothes

From the East End Transformation Public Pin-up and Youth Charrette today at the Family Resource Center: a list of retail that teenagers would like to see, and maps marking in green and red the safe and unsafe places.

VCU/MCV Health Fair at Armstrong

The 3rd Annual VCU/MCV Campus Community Health Fair will be held on Saturday, March 6th, at Armstrong High School from 10AM to 3PM. Free Screenings will be offered for: Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Diabetes, Dental screening, HIV / Syphilis screenings, and H1N1 Shots. Free lunch for the first 400 people. Games and moon bounce for kids.
