The end of the ABC store?

Richmond BizSense has info on a proposal to privatize ABC sales in Virginia: Senate Bill 443 would force the Virginia Department of Alcohol Beverage Control to close its retail operations. The ABC would auction off “package store” licenses to vendors that wish to sell liquor and other alcoholic beverages for consumption off premises.

Running commentary on an ABC appeal hearing

In the ongoing saga of the fight over the ABC license of the corner store at 2300 Venable Street (see 1,000,000 bottle bags), there was an appeal hearing on the original ruling.

Fight the good fight

The appeal hearing for the ABC license for the convenience store at 2300 Venable Street has been set for April 4th at 3:30 pm. The appeal will be before the 3 newly appointed ABC board. This hearing differs from the 1/26 hearing which was before a single hearing officer.

Corner store granted limited license thanks to community efforts

Union Hill and Fairmount residents feeling the adverse impact of alcohol-related crimes will have the opportunity to make a difference. The hearing referenced in the November’s 1,000,000 bottle bags has been scheduled for 1pm on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the ABC Headquarters on Hermitage Rd.

We used to joke that the black plastic bag, emptied of its big bottle of beer and gently floating on the breeze, was the neighborhood flower. Corner stores selling liquor is a constant issue in certain areas, with a fight occurring right now over the store at 2300 Venable Street.
