Higher Ground still vacant, Sandra’s is gone
Bishop Richard Hall announced a plan in March to convert the Higher Ground Tabernacle into a coffee shop. It now looks like the property is up for auction… We’ve also heard that Sandra’s Home Cooked on 29th Street has moved out.

There was a shed break-in last night in on the 600 block of 29th Street sometime between 11PM and 4AM. The entire lock was removed and various lawn equipment was stolen. /// A reader wants to know if anyone has any info on the armed robbery on the 400 block of 23rd Street on March 23rd.

Valor Awards for local police officers, firefighters
In a ceremony today at the Richmond Convention Center, 2 of the 16 awards given out were the bronze Valor Awards for Officers Mervin Mayo and Gregory Nienow for saving five people and a dog from a burning house on North 29th Street in January of this year. [via]

A Colonial Heights man was car-jacked and then forced to drive to 29th and Clay Streets. There, the victim fired shots at his alleged abductors and then drove to Broad Street and flagged down a police officer. [via]
