a robbery @ 26th and Franklin
A reader sent in overnight this unconfirmed report of a new style of robbery:
My roommates were held up at gunpoint Saturday night at 1:30 or so on their way home from Shockoe Bottom. They were walking and the incident happened on 26th and Franklin. A car pulled up and stopped at the corner, a guy got out and the car kept driving. He walked up on them and held a gun to them and robbed them.

another wreck&run
Just a few blocks away from last week’s wreck&run, neighbors on the 900 block of 26th Street had a rude surprise around 9:30AM this morning when an SUV was driven up over the curb and to the porch of one of the new houses. The driver fled, leaving the engine running…

Springfield School (circa 1915)
Springfield School, 26th and Leigh Street, Richmond, Va. is one of the most modern and complete Elementary Schools in the South. It is a fire-proof building, constructed in 1913 of Virginia granite at a cost of $100,000. It contains twenty-five class rooms, a large assembly hall and is splendidly equipped for instruction in Manual Training and Domestic Science. Besides Kindergarten and Retarded Classes, there are two Open-Air Schools in operation on the roof.

a fairly recent history
The Virginia Film Office has a location library of shots from around the neighborhood from what appears to be the early 1990s. The set labeled Church Hill Residential (Rough) caught a bunch of building that have since been fixed up or demolished.

police chase and capture
A combined Virginia State and Richmond City Police chase ended in the rear of 606 North 27th Street early Saturday morning.
