Market demand in the East End

Style Weekly this week gives the cover to the need for a grocery store at 25th and Nine Mile:

The effort to bring a grocery store to 25th and Nine Mile offers a case study in inner-city redevelopment: In the economically distressed corridor, retail development offers perhaps the greatest opportunity for revival. Low-barrier grocery jobs — such as clerks, stockers, baggers — offer potential employment to the unemployed. In addition to bringing much-needed everyday staples, such as milk, bread, meats and canned goods, grocery stores also serve as important community gathering places.

Lemonaid for a good cause

CHAT and East End Fellowship are hosting a lemonade stand featuring freshly baked homemade chocolate chip cookies:

Proceeds will help build a house for a displaced family in Haiti Our goal is $1200! Prices are $1.00 for a giant cookie, $0.50 for lemonade, and $0.50 for two small cookies. Lemonade and Cookies will be available at Leigh St. and 25th St. and next to the 25th Street Post Office from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday August 2 through Friday August 6. What is better than some cold lemonade with freshly baked chocolate chip cookies?

Police seek Family Dollar robber

Richmond Police are seeking a man who robbed the Family Dollar store located at 1220 North 25th Street at approximately 2:30PM today. The man walked into the store and stood in line at the register, displayed a handgun and took money. He walked from the store and was last seen running westbound on Fairmount Avenue.

The long-delapidated theater on 25th Street sold twice in January, the last time on 1/7/2010 for $45,000. The city lists the current owner as “RELATED COMPANIES THE LLC AND STERLING BILDER LLC”, aka the folks behind the Sterling Row condos on 19th Street.
