This letter is pure NIMBYism because it ignores the benefits Rte 5 development has to preventing sprawl outside the 295 ring. I wonder if the so-called Partnership for Smarter Growth is ignorant of this or intentionally misleading? Quit fomenting balkanization, Partnership. Thank goodness some people in this town have your number.

I’m in favor of providing a safety net for those in need and think most people are. However, many folks are using this safety net as a free pass to avoid any responsibility.

Would it be asking too much for us to expect that free housing come with rules that no adult men are allowed and that the housing department will conduct periodic inspections of the taxpayer owned housing for drugs and weapons? We may not be able to mandate good behavior but enabling bad behavior is a little much to ask taxpayers funding this lifestyle to swallow.

Side note: A large portion of this vid was taken in the 1300 blk of Coalter St. which is private apartments not Mosby Court. Not that it really matters, its all Section 8 housing. Apartments were named Fairhills. May have been renamed recently.

Where are all the folks who were talking about how it was alright for folks in public housing to buy 50″ plasmas a few weeks ago. Is this also an ok splurge for these hard working folks?

It may also help to read CHPN’s post regarding the most recent Henrico public meeting. The gathering on 2/13 at John Rolfe Middle School drew over 100 people and was called out of resident’s concern over the Rt 5 Corridor Study’s “Concepts 1 & 2.” Disdain was voiced there over potential impact in both Henrico and Richmond.

Church Hill Association to vote on Route 5 Corridor Study

The CHA’s February membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, at 7PM in St. John’s Church. Agenda items include: presentation of the new CHA website, issuing a statement in support of keeping open and refurbishing the 25th Street Post Office, and an up or down vote on whether to proceed or not to proceed with the 2 concepts recommended under the Route 5 Corridor Study.

This is what happens when we “store” humans in ‘projects”. These young men are just playing the role they have been set up for, next stop prison or death in the streets. We all know this.
When they are not “hanging out”, selling drugs, breaking into homes and cars, or robbing people they are having sex and producing the next generation of project kids. Yes this vid says it all.
The east end is full of young drop outs with no future due mainly to us having the largest portion of “projects” in this city. These children will not stop doing what they are doing til something is done to help them (They may be 21 or older but you heard them, children). We need to close these projects, relocate these families to better communities and give them support ( spiritually, financially, positive role models) to help them understand that they can break this insane downward cycle. I would also add I think our government should make it more difficult to receive any financial gain from having children. Maybe even draconian measures. We need to rethink this entire process and stop investing our monies in a failing system.

However, having banked with SunTrust for over 20 years, and over the years I’ve run up against a handful of surprisingly anti-customer policies. That said, I usually find a way to over come/work around those policies and continue banking with them.

But what really weirds me out about the “we don’t make change” thing is this: when I travel outside Richmond, either domestically or internationally, I routinely rely on banks (where I’m not a customer) to help me out with routine transactions.

I think of all those times I walked into a bank in a foreign country with Amex Travelers Checks (yes some folks still use em) and had them cashed for the local currency.

I can understand a banks interest in protecting itself from fraud, but this latest “we don’t make change” thing seems petty on SunTrust’s part. They participate in the FDIC program…since that’s a federal program, as a citizen/tax payer, I feel justified in calling them out on this issue.
