Man shot in leg in Creighton

The RTD has info on a non-fatal shooting last night in the 3300 block of Bunche Place in Creighton Court:

The victim, 29, told police that he and a friend were walking in the neighborhood when they saw two other men come out of an apartment and walk toward them. At that point, the victim, said, one shot was heard.

Richmond gets millions for public housing renovation

The RRHA will use $10.8 million in stimulus funds to renovate public housing in Gilpin, Creighton, Whitcomb, Mosby, and Fulton. The scheduled work includes installation of more efficient windows and kitchen and bathroom renovations, and should begin in the next 120 days. [via]

Henrico man picked up for suspicious infant death

Richmond Police have arrested Henrico County resident Garnell Stevenson, 24, in the death of a one-year-old child at around 1PM today in the 2200 block of Creighton Road. Officially, the cause of death has not been identified, but police are investigating the death as “suspicious”. It has been alleged that he killed the infant “for taken a shit on his self”. [via]

Following up on her 2007 novel My Mamma, My Teacha, Loretta Watson has reprinted There Is Hope, her 1996 book of poetry. For every copy sold, one dollar goes toward the Shirley Coleman – Loretta Watson Creighton Court Scholarship Fund and will help a child from Creighton Court pay for a portion of his/her college expenses.

Calvin Morgan yesterday pled guilty to the murder of Billy Graham back in May. Also yesterday, Brian O. Smith, a resident of the 2200 block of Fairmount Avenue and one of two defendants in the Jan. 23 shooting death of a man in Creighton Court, was convicted of second-degree murder.

popular transvestite is Richmond’s 52nd homicide of the year

April Marie Walker, a 45-year-old transvestite who lived in the 2000 block North 29th Street, was found shot this morning in the doorway of his apartment in the Creighton Court public housing.
