football coaches wanted
Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities is looking for volunteers to coach the 2008 Football Season at Creighton Court Community Center. Coaching positions are open for Peewees, Midgets and Juniors football teams. The fall football season will run Aug.4-Nov.30. Contact Deborah Day at (804)646-4511 for more info.

2007 East End homicides
According to the RPD’s Crime Incident Information site, there were 16 homicides in the 1st Precinct in 2007. This is down from 30 homicides in 2006 and 32 homicides in 2005.

drive-by in Creighton
Around 3:30PM yesterday, two men that were not residents of the Creighton complex were shot to death in a drive-by shooting in the 2000 block of Creighton Road. [via]

toddler dies in apartment fire
A 21-month-old toddler, Kamau Oliver II, died yesterday morning in an apartment fire (apparently started by his 4 and 6 year-old brothers playing with a cigarette lighter) in the 2000 block of Creighton Road. [via]

Jerrod L. Shepperson was arrested yesterday in the 3100 block of Nine Mile Road in the Creighton Court public housing complex, charged with robbery, abduction and possession of heroin. [via]

flowers planted and partnership announced at Creighton
Mums, pansies, juniper and rose bushes were planted at Creighton Court on Saturday. The flowers represent a new partnership between Creighton Court residents, the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital.

wrapping’em up
Calvin Morgan yesterday pled guilty to the murder of Billy Graham back in May. Also yesterday, Brian O. Smith, a resident of the 2200 block of Fairmount Avenue and one of two defendants in the Jan. 23 shooting death of a man in Creighton Court, was convicted of second-degree murder.

popular transvestite is Richmond’s 52nd homicide of the year
April Marie Walker, a 45-year-old transvestite who lived in the 2000 block North 29th Street, was found shot this morning in the doorway of his apartment in the Creighton Court public housing.
