#5 Hanover shuts out Armstrong 40-0
The fifth-ranked Hanover Hawks (6-1) shut down the Armstrong Wildcats 40-0 last night in Hanover. Next up is a road game at the Atlee Raiders (5-3) who beat the Glen Allen Jaguars 56-33 on Friday.
The Wildcats (2-5) are holding down 7th place in the 8 team Capital District, with a season closing home game with 8th place Henrico High (0-7) set for the 2nd week in November.
Nothing beats a failure but a try. Did they even try?
Cornfed – yes they tried you jackass. Armstrong only has about 20 kids on their football team who have to play both sides of the ball (offense/defense). Hanover has about 70 kids suited up in brand new shiny uniforms. Hanover also has nearly double the enrollment of Armstrong. Do the math! next year the VHSL is reorganizing the athletic districts locally and most of the city schools (who have around 600-700 students) will be in the same division. Look for the Wildcats to improve next season’s football team to an even or winning record. *** Meanwhile, the Wildcats beat the snot out of the Hanover volleyball team last week… and yes they tried.
@2 – good news on city of Richmond finally making it more fair for Armstrong. Haven’t been able to figure how they got stuck playing these big schools – and almost always on the road too.
I coach the Armstrong wrestling team. The squad was 12-8 last season. There are about 2 dozen kids on the wrestling team… very disciplined and good kids. In dual meets, they have beat Meadowbrook, Atlee, Manchester, Henrico, Highland Springs and a slew of other schools recently.In the past 2 years two wrestlers qualified as state tournament alternates. The athelete kids in this neighborghood work their tails off, almost always with less raw numbers, rare parental support and sometimes worn out equipment. To them, these are no factor… they put their hearts into sports and stay clear of negative influences. If these had the unrestricted funding and opportunity of some of the affluent county schools the city school teams would go further in all sports. Everyone reading this should know from an insider the kids at Church Hill’s high school put a lot into sports as a means to stay out of trouble and have fun. Don’t knock them !!!
That is very good info. I’m an Armstrongl/Kennedy Grad; so I certainly didn’t mean it to be offensive. Such a gap in score; I just wondered what the heck was going on! Keep up the good work!!!!! My bad! Go Wildcats, Go!!!!!!
