I’m almost afraid to ask: where are we on the 2012 body count? My sense is that we’re doing pretty well, despite this bad news.
From the RPD:
“Robbery was the motive for this morning’s shooting. This was not a random act. The residence in which the shooting occurred was targeted. The women were not shooting at each other, and both are now in stable condition. Investigators are looking for two men in connection with this shooting. Both suspects are described as black males with medium complexions, about 5’8” to 5’9” feet tall, approximately 30 years old with short hair. Investigators are following up on several, very strong leads this morning, but still encourage anyone in the community with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.”
@Houdon – Just over halfway through 2012, the East End of Richmond is at 2 homicides for the year. The lowest yearly count ever for us that I can find is 9 in 2009. The city as a whole is at 18. For reference there, 2009′s total count of 32 for the year was the best since 1961.
There have now been 4 shootings originating out of that house on the corner of N 27th and Q street in just slightly over a year. Obviously a drug spot, its about time the police do something about it.
“Another neighbor, LaTashia Alexander told CBS 6 she was not surprised by the overnight ordeal.
“Thank God we’re moving at the end of this month, because that house has been a to-go spot,” said Alexander. “It’s never been a good view, always have the wrong crowd.””
Amen. The other thing is directly across the street there is a basketball hoop in the road that tons of kids ages 4-teens play at every day. They are really nice kids, careful about cars and are courteous when you drive by, so to have quarterly shootings 10 feet away is ridiculous and is only a matter of time before a child gets hurt or killed. This house is the same one where a shooting resulted in a stray bullet through my car door last summer. Hope it gets cleaned up over there.
I’m embarrassed to live and raise a family in this area. Can’t wait until I move!
