I will miss your awesome carrot cupcakes. Between HoH and OMG this is really bumming me out. I know making a restaurant go is a tough job but come on, we need more support for local Hill restaurants!
This is very sad news but can’t say I’m surprised. There were never people in there when I stopped in :-(
Needed more inventory and coffee before 8am
Will miss being able to buy Flour Garden bread there. Was nice to have a place in the neighborhood that had fresh and good quality bread.

When I talked to the lady that worked there, she said that the reason that they were closing was because they just simply didn’t have enough foot traffic. I’m going to miss them a lot. It was one of my favorite places in CH. Hopefully all four corners on that block will fill up soon with new businesses. :/
Points brought up here and before… food too quirky, not enough variety, no coffee offered for the morning crowds, and the type of foods offered too similar to what Buzzy offers a block away.
And the location… is not on a main street of traffic. Downtown is dead and basically closed for business on weekends so casual traffic is restricted to locals. I have said this more than once, these old interior streets mom and pop businesses were part of a bygone era when there were trolleys going up and down Marshall and locals supported local business more and didn’t have to rely on parking. The Laundromats thrived so long because it was unique and a needed service for the area. I am afraid unless these are converted to some sort of office or museums then they will never have a long term tenant.
Also, when Homemade first was announced I thought it was going to be a traditional “bakery” meaning serving doughnuts, pastry, danish, pies, cakes, etc… like a regular bakery does. I was looking forward to that but it turned out much different.
Sorry to see them go, but not really surprised. Their sandwiches were quite tasty – but you can’t charge $9 for something that should be $6 or $7 and expect to stay in business. A lot of small businesses seem to do this – they have an inadequate cushion to get things going, so immediately price themselves out of the market before they’ve had a chance to establish a clientele… and so the death spiral begins.
Sad to see this shop go out of business, but it is not a surprise being so close to Captain Buzzy’s.
In reference to Eric constantly, posting businesses off Broad are off the main flow of traffic. Have u not noticed how many people take Marshall St. opposed to Broad because of all the stop signs on Broad. I rarely ever drive down Broad ST.
If this had been more of a drawing board such as Roosevelt’s, it could have been very successful. I love how so many restaurants are moving up the hill from the bottom. The businesses having the confidence to set up shop here can only attract more high-income people to the area. It is my total dream Church Hill will be the Georgetown of Richmond; no other neighborhood has all we have to offer.
1. Proximity to the river, 2. Views to die for, 3. Proximity to downtown, 4. Proximity to the airport and so many more positives to Church Hill :-)
