Animal control is the first place I would go look for my dog if it was lost.
And, they also ADOPT out a lot of dogs there.
To just say “they kill dogs there” really diminishes the scope of what animal control officers have to put up with: including strays hit by cars, trapping rabid critters, aggressive dogs, and owner requested euthanasias, to name a few things.
Could most facilities do better? Sure.
Do workers sometimes suffer compassion fatigue and all the implications thereof? Yup.
If it really bothers you that much, perhaps you should trot on down there and get the dog yourself after ten days.
