Bellevue named 2010 National Blue Ribbon School
Bellevue Elementary School has been named a 2010 National Blue Ribbon School (PDF) by the U.S. Department of Education. Bellevue is one of only 304 public or private schools nationwide and one of only nine in Virginia to earn the designation, according to the USDOE. The award recognizes schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress in closing achievement gaps among disadvantaged and minority students.

I hope this award makes it more difficult for RPS to close the school and surplus the property.
From what I understand, there are 2 other East End elementary schools ahead of Bellevue on the potential chopping block.
Then again, this is RPS we’re talking about, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they closed the school and turned it into Yvonne Brandon’s personal day spa.
#2 – The last I heard about that was in the Wilder administration. Is it still true?
This is one more reason why I’m glad that we made the decision to enroll our son in Bellevue!
Each day I discover something new about the school, the teachers, or the administration that reinforces our decision.
If you are interested in keeping Bellevue as a school, join the PTA! It’s only $5 and you can dedicate as much or as little time AND the best part, is that you don’t have to have a child enrolled to be a member.
The school has shown achievement, now imagine the possibilities with active community support!
Tiny, it’s an ever-changing slate (this is RPS after all), but I’d bet you’ll see one of George Mason and Chimbo closed before Bellevue. Mason was all but closed 3-4 years ago but got a stay of execution. It’s a basket case inside- chronic A/C issues, mold, mice, roaches, leaking roof, lead paint, asbestos- you name it, they’ve got it.
Heather- keep it up! If all RPS schools had the parental involvement Bellevue does, half the issues we face wouldn’t be issues at all!
Great news!
Homeowners, if you get the opportunity, please thank the folks who are involved day to day at Bellevue, and if you have time – get involved! I have helped two families buy in the area over the past year and a half, and both were encouraged by the progress at Bellevue. They are looking forward to sending their children there in the future.
Awesome news about neighborhood schools has direct and fabulous affect on your property values. So in addition to the the benefit to the neighborhood young ones, this kind of news is a boon for a neighborhood’s economic energy.
Hooray Bellevue!
