Before and after on M Street
Threatened with demolition 5 years ago, 2311 M Street has been renovated and is for sale:
Newly renovated, the 1910 home has two bedrooms, two and a-half bathrooms and new HVAC and utilities. The residence is 1,560 square feet and historic attributes such as floors, mantels, and railings have been restored.

I’ve been inside this home, before, during and after the renovation. I know the renovator/owner, David Collett/Old House Recycling. He loves Church Hill and is responsible for many a fine restoration up here. All his work has stood the test of time, too. 2311 M St is outstanding, the house IS a peach, and the kitchen, especially is amazing. Nice view of the Tricycle Garden, and great neighbors in that area.
Here’s what I love about Elaine Odell: she’s been in the neighborhood for 20+ years and remains engaged, open to new things and people, and stays optimistic about the good things that are still coming our way. We need fifty of her.
And is still working to make this a better place to live… true pioneer :)

I completely agree that Elaine Odell is a gem. I would contend, however, that there ARE fifty, if not hundreds of old timers in Church Hill/Union Hill that can claim the same characteristics as Elaine. I wish that you felt the same way, instead of referring to many of your long-time neighbors, by name, at a recent community meeting, as being “scarred and colored” (many of whom were African American) by all the hard work they have done to better our community. They are not scarred at all. They just passionately disagree with you on the best way to bring positive change to the neighborhood.
I am not trying to diminish any of the praise Elaine so rightly deserves. I just want to point out that once again, this seems to be a back handed compliment at long time residents who disagree with your brand of politics. And please be assured, “Houdon,” when you are involved, EVERYBODY, is aware that it is politics, and NOT community activism.
I also find it interesting that you, who have chastised others for posting anonymously on this site, find yourself doing just that, now that you have a politically sensitive job working for the Governor’s office.
