Painted

Cedar and 22nd Streets George Wardwell is a painter out of Maine who has captured a few local views: It’s hard to say what catches my interest, because that changes day-to-day. I am fascinated in the hand of man on the landscape, whether it’s buildings, bridges, highways or factories.

Homicide numbers remain lower

As of yet for 2010 there have been 7 homicides in the East End and 20 across the entire city. At this point in 2009, there had also been 7 killings in the East End and 28 for Richmond as a whole.

Movies in the Park in July and August

Richmond’s Parks & Rec recently announced the city-wide movies-in-the-park series and we’ve got 2 on the calendar: Monsters vs. Aliens plays on Friday, July 30 8:30PM at Jefferson Hill Park; Fame plays on Friday, August 13 8:30PM at Chimborazo Park.

Richmond History Center walking tour of Church Hill

A Church Hill Walking Tour from the folks at the Valentine Richmond History Center: Examine 19th century architecture and modern revitalization efforts in Richmond’s oldest intact neighborhood. Developed by Major William Mayo, Church Hill is home to St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry made his famous speech, and the city’s largest number of antebellum structures.

Ethel Bailey Furman recognized as one of the Virginia Women in History 2010

We missed recognizing this earlier: Richmond architect Ethel Bailey Furman was profiled as one of the Virginia Women in History 2010 by the Library of Virginia.

Missing moped on Marshall Street

A dark purple 1974 Puch moped with bi-turbo exhaust, the rear tail light out and rear wiring visible, and a large seat was stolen from the back yard on the corner of 22nd and Marshall streets a few days ago. Call (804)363-3746 if you see this moped.

Two more for Fairmount Avenue

2308 Fairmount Avenue The Better Housing Coalition has plans for a renovation and a new house on Fairmount Avenue. The affordable housing organization very recently closed on 2012 Fairmount Avenue, named earlier this year one of the ten most blighted houses in Church Hill, and intends to build at 2308 Fairmount Avenue.

Police pursuit ends on T Street

On a night dark with all of the street lights out, some kind of police pursuit ends with an empty car on T Street blasting hip hop, a plane circling Church Hill, and at least 10 police cars between 28th and 30th Street rolling blue lights as officers poke around vacant lots in the area [...]
