East End street report

Let’s work together to get the lowdown on street conditions. Chime in with the condition of your street, or if you have driven somewhere, how those streets are looking…

Here’s what I know:

  • Fairmount Avenue is clear
  • 22nd/23rd north of Venable are dangerously icy
  • R and Q east of 25th are icy

Lifted shamelessly from Hills&Heights.

My streets, 27th and Leigh, look icy but are rapidly melting with the sun beating down. I’m about to head north to VCC then Caroline County where it’s gonna be even more fun to drive around. : )

Marshall is clear. Clay Street is hit or miss from Jefferson to Chimborazo Blvd.

All clear up Grace and 26th looks decent as well. All the complaints really whipped the city into action.

North 22nd south of Venable is plowed and sanded (twice)! Broad St. is wet but clean.

I was about to report on the streets nearest my house (27th & Leigh), but it looks like I was beaten to it. :)

I saw plows come down Leigh late last night, and even saw one hit 27th in the wee hours of the morning, but it didn’t look like he was doing anything more than spreading sand.

Drove over to 821 Cafe for dinner last night around 5; Cary Street was kind of a mess, but Main, Broad and Belvidere between here and there were all clear. Coming back, the Leigh St. bridge was also clear, but down to two lanes.

Broad in the 2600 block is clear. To anyone, but particularly #5 – did you take 25th or 21st to Main Street? Just wondering how it looks.

Since #3 is reporting that 26th near Grace looks good, I’m assuming that the hill on 25th is clear, but thought I’d ask.

John M, having people report in like this was an inspired idea, thanks!

Fairmount and 25th are, of course, fine. As for the rest of the streets in the Fairmount neighborhood, they’re patchy. Some sections are just wet, but there are many spots that are still packed snow or ice, and albeit in scattered spots. Streets that see a good amount of sun, like the section of 22nd I’m looking at now, are good, or will be soon.

25th is clear down the hill and Chimborazo/Oakwood is clear. I couldn’t tell where the road ended on 33rd and I probably slashed my tire (again) on the granite curb as I parked.

I wanted to clear the sewer drain for drainage, but the city plowed a mountain of ice and snow right on top of it, so it’s blocked.

Otherwise the street is clear. I attribute that more to the light snowfall and thaw than government efficiency.

I have to say, I’m really impressed with the street clearing this time! It is totally different from last weekend! Broad St., 25th from Broad to Main, and Main St. – hey, this time, they cleared FOUR LANES on Main St., instead of one and half as they did last weekend!

There’s a problem with the drain at the northeast corner of 25th and Main, it’s been going on for a while, it’s created a huge puddle of water today but that will soon become ice, & now the city has put up orange cones and directed traffic to use one lane of Main coming into town just at that intersection. Hopefully they will get that fixed soon.

Katherine, #9 what sewer drain were you trying to clear?

I can’t say it enough – the city did a GOOD JOB this time! Compared to last weekend, it’s WONDERFUL!

I realize there are still some streets up here that need clearing – but I spoke to a neighbor who has lived here for over thirty years, and he said he’s never seen Franklin Street hill plowed from 25th up to Libby Hill Park!

The drain I was referring to is by the church on the corner of 32nd and Broad.

I would like to add, that all who have complained about a little show on the roads got their way and the city was more agressive with the plows. Now when we all need an alignment from the potholes, remember the complaining about a day or two of snow.
