As a concerned customer of this restaurant, it saddens me to know that this place will only be opened on these days. Church Hill needs another space so that there’s a bit of variety. I love all the servers there, and now I won’t get to see some of them. As rumours swirl that Que Pasa may find itself under new management, I hope this happens soon. It would be a shame to lose such a great location!
I enjoyed the Long Arms w/ special guest Maki show last Saturday. A good crowd of neighbors and newcomers. I agree with concerned patron -great location.
Every small business, cafe, & indie restaurant in our area is struggling. Our households are struggling. I wish Que Pasa well in the cinching of their belt and hope the time comes when we can all thrive once more! Changing hours, menus, employee numbers,& cutting back on stock are some ways we just might make it through this….
I went there with a friend a few weeks ago to try it out. To start with, we ordered drinks – one red wine and one kettle one martini…they were out, we ordered beers. Then we ordered apps – beef empinadas…they were out. By then it was just annoying so we just ordered burgers – at least they had those.
So, from my experience there, can’t say I’m surprised they’re cutting back days.
best improvement that it could have is new management!
Parker,
That has happened to me over and over again…. therefore I stopped going. How can a restraurant be in business if it doesn’t serve the food from the menu? It is soooo annoying. Maybe with the cut back in hours… their original menu may return. I hope so.
My wife and I used to frequent Que Pasa quite a bit before we moved out of Richmond. We were there at least once a month, and it was also our go to spot when company was in town.
The owner was always very friendly, and the food was great.
I’m sorry to hear the business is struggling, but I’m not surprised. The economy sucks, and people are cutting back on luxury expenses like dining out.
I certainly hope they can pull through and get their mojo back. It would be a shame for Church Hill to lose such an excellent restaurant.
You guys have GOT to be kidding. “The owner was always very friendly, and the food was great.” He’s not friendly. He’s a joke. The staff is OK and for a while, the only great thing about that place was the variety in bands and the jazz on Sundays. Now it’s going under. John Sanchez has himself to blame. If you read this John, give the restaurant to people who will take care of it.
It was only a matter of time.
Part of me feels sorry for Sanchez. I know what it feels like to put your heart and soul into something and not bring it to fruition.
But another part of me is glad the place is winding down so someone who knows what he/she’s doing can make a real go of it.
We went there a couple of times and found they were out of certain things as well. Nothing like having your heart set on a certain food and not being able to get it. For us, we stopped going.
Oh Please said:
“You guys have GOT to be kidding. He’s not friendly. He’s a joke.”
I think that’s incredibly rude.
I meant exactly what I said. The man was downright hospitable every time we arrived, and took care to make sure we had a pleasant evening.
He should be lauded for even *trying* to run a nice dining establishment in Church Hill, and you lot should be thankful for folks like him who are making an effort.
Again, I wish Que Pasa the best, and I hope they pull through this downturn and can return to their former stature.
the last time i went there, it was taco night. great, as long as you only want tacos! and then, they didn’t even have sour cream, which is-in my opinion, one of the most important condiments for tacos. And they didn’t offer any other options to eat other than tacos!
so– if you’re going to force people to eat tacos in the first place, shouldn’t you at least have ponied up & gone to sam’s for the appropriate fixins once you figured you were out!?
i couldn’t believe it!
then, on top of all that, the owner was acting like he was forcing us out after one taco each, even though by then, the beer had kicked in, and we were ready for a second round. i didn’t feel like he even wanted our business!
i like the atmosphere but the service (owner included) and some of the food (like the chocolate cake) is just down right nasty. hopefully if someone else takes over, they can do the place justice.
The last time we went was also on “taco night.” plastic plates, utensils. On a good note, the waitress was VERY nice but a two taco limit – excuse me? Sad – the place is beautiful, great atmosphere especially in the winter but we won’t be back until this place gets it act together. There are too many good places around here to eat that are consistently good and we don’t have to wonder what we will get when we go.
Ndeplume, that’s just it- it looks and *acts* like a nice dining establishment, but at the end of the day they serve overpriced mediocre food, run out of things frequently & service is inconsistent at best. It’s too bad to see that things aren’t going well for them, but it’s certainly not a surprise.
Off topic, I know…But would it kill someone to offer delivery in Church Hill? Ugh….No real food options for those just looking to stay in and have a bite. Bubbling and East Villa don’t count…
Moving on, Que Pasa seemed really “bush league” when I was last there on burger night. I was fully prepared to drop money on my bar tab seeing as the burgers were super cheap, but the guy was out of everything and blech…the fries were just plain terrible and obviously, the buns came from Kroger. Not good.
