Nothing like an illegally placed campaign sign in the right of way.

Did anyone notice that the statewide candidates don’t put the party they are running on (or from?).

Oddly, for Robinson, Council elections aren’t technically associated with parties, but “Democrat” is listed.

Robinson lists “True Democrat.” The democratic party doesn’t have a copyright for the title “democrat” just like a particular sect of Christianity doesn’t own the word “Christian.”

    “…Council elections aren’t technically associated with parties….”

But the parties do nose their way into our little districts and give endorsements.

These sign are nothing compared what the Deeds campaign is doing.
You wonder how anyone can expect to be Governor when his campaign so openly flouts State law.

I’ve worked on campaigns state wide where campaign workers got out of hand with signs, both placing them and stealing them from the opponents. It’s got nothing to do with the candidate most of the time, these are volunteers.

Besides, it will all be over in a day.

Now, the council race in the 7th, most of those signs seem to be placed by the candidates themselves. That’s another issue entirely, especially when the candidate has been made aware of a problem. I’m thinking particularly of Lewis. From my personal observation, most but not all of Robinson’s signs are in yards. Lewis’s, however, seem almost entirely in tree wells, right of way, etc.

In your first paragraph “where campaign workers got out of hand with signs, both placing them and stealing them…” you pass off such behavior on the volunteers… It’s got nothing to do with the candidate most of the time.

However, in your third, you still point at me.

I had people out on foot removing those signs last week that ended up in the wrong places. Any signs remaining should be near the other candidates signs; along the same public paths/roads they have been on.

I’ve had over a dozen calls and emails from folks telling me my signs have been taken out of their front yards. I’m sure that is OK, they are just volunteers, getting out of hand :)

Just threw away illegally placed Newbille and Mcquinn signs around my property. My neighbor said she saw several ladies doing it and that they have placed a row on the block behind us. All of this without permission!

It’s not “stealing” signs if you remove them from the Right of Way. It’s quite legal to do this as per City Ordinance.

Looks like the neighbors took down all the illegally placed Newbille signs around the block.

Suggestion: Tear off unwanted paper or plastic political sign and save the wire. Last year we took twine to a row of wire sign frames for growing peas. They work well as a stepping stone arbor for young plants.

Does anyone know how long after an election do the signs need to be taken down. I would assume that most of the signs I saw today were illegal as they were in public areas. Isn’t there some kind of fine, etc. to the candidate if the sign is illegal and not taken down in a timely fashion? I’m sure we’ll see plenty of them scattering the city tomorrow and further down the road. Just seems like a shame to still have them up after the election and distracting from the beauty of the city…

Yeah Deanna, are you going to get your signs out of those tree wells now?

  13. posted by Ramzi at November 16, 2009 4:35 pm [#]:

Those campaign signs are still everywhere. Shouldn’t the candidates at least be responsible for their removal?
