Just entered the Armstrong football schedule into the calendar. Kind of weird thinking about Nov, still feels like Aug. http://bit.ly/cSFxqD

Fire coverage, public safety, H1N1 top Saturday’s discussion

About 30 people turned out for Saturday’s 7th District meeting at the Peter Paul Development Center, not counting firefighters. Topics of discussion included fire safety, the H1N1 flu, and a spirited conversation on public safety. Representatives from New Visions, Unity, Concerned Citizens, Union Hill Civic Association, and the Church Hill Association were present, as well as three of the City Council candidates.

Highlights included audiance questions posed to Chief Robert Creecy, allegations of prostitution around the vacant house at 23rd and U Streets, and the comments of long time residents and civic leaders frustrated by crime, loitering, trash, issues related to public housing.

This may not be news after the meeting the other day but Church Hill residents should know that there are only 4 firemen in the house tonight. This is not good for us and it is not good for them either. They will not be getting the support they need on calls which, by definition, will limit their effectiveness. Given what is happening at our local fire house, should we be prepared for a decrease in the number of police in the 1st Precinct?
