Proposed law offers tax breaks to reduce blight and vacant lots
Speaking of vacant lots, Councilwoman Robertson will be holding a public forum on Tuesday, September 15 from 10-noon to solicit input and support of a proposed new law (PDF) which seeks to offer tax incentives for development in specific areas.

Not sure if I’ve read the new law correctly, but would this only apply to single-family residential development? I wish that it would apply to a diversity of uses. Redevelopment areas could certainly use some business development, too, and multi-family development (particularly apartments) could provide greater housing affordability. I know that we already have the Enterprise Zone program in some sections of the City, too, but this might be another way to generate more small business development. Just my two cents.

the carrot approach is good…. but if they also used the stick from time to time they’d get better results.
