Saturday Matinee at the Robinson

The Majestic makes its mark as Robinson’s first Saturday Matinee. Throughout the theater’s restoration process, many times this movie was referenced in a “it’s just like The Majestic” sort of way. Whether it’s already a favorite film of yours or you’ll be viewing it for the first time, plan to join us for a fun filled afternoon.
Admission $1.00. Snack bar open with popcorn, candy and drinks.

2009 Summer Reenactment Series

The Patrick Henry Committee invites you to bring your friends and family to a reenactment of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. In the presence of Washington, Jefferson, and other notable Virginians, Patrick Henry delivered his passionate call for liberty, uttering the immortal words, “Give me liberty or give me death!”

Tickets are handed out on a first come, first served basis starting at 1:00pm. At 1:30pm, there is a music program on the 1905 Stein organ. The reenactment begins at 2:00pm.

An Afternoon with Eliza Poe

St. John’s Church’s cemetery is the final resting place of Elizabeth Arnold Poe, Edgar Allan Poe’s birth mother and an accomplished stage actress in her day. Eliza was known for her theatrical versatility, her comedic skill, and her beautiful singing voice. She was twenty-four when she passed away in Richmond in 1811, and at the time of her death she was on her way to achieving national stardom.

Meet Eliza Poe for a stroll through the grounds of St. John’s Church. Learn about what life in Richmond was like in the early nineteenth century, and hear Mrs. Poe tell her tragically short life story. In addition to two monologues from her vast repertoire, Mrs. Poe will also perform “The Market Lass,” with which she debuted on the American stage in 1796 at the age of nine.
