The end of the tunnel under Union Hill is filled with water. If the water were drained it would most likely cause the collapse of that section of the hill.

A few years ago, the tunnel owner attempted to drain it and open it back up. This was near 21st and Marshall. Wilder stopped them.

A writer for the RTD explored the East end of the tunnel many years ago. It prompted the sealing of the tunnel.

"The sealed railroad tunnel that ran underneath Church Hill is immediately adjacent to the property, and the old tracks extend across it. White said they plan to emphasize the railroad history of the site and want to place refurbished rail cars there that offer some sort of amenities to tenants."

this is a brilliant idea. i've always wondered why the tunnel was overlooked. it's kind of a dramatic part of our history. we talk about it a lot, but no one ever knows where it is.

I will be interested to see what the lease up timeframe on this project is. Should be a good indicator on the Richmond and East End residential market. If this project has early success it could be a good sign for other slated projects.
