Almost leasing at Cold Storage
Richmond BizSense has an update on the work underway at the Cold Storage complex on 18th Street:
The first of five turn-of-the-century industrial buildings to be turned into apartments is six weeks away from completion and will soon begin leasing. The development is a $50 million project of Historic Housing, the same group that developed 17th Street Lofts and The Lofts at Canal Walk. [...] White said there are no plans for commercial space at the cold storage apartments except for a brewpub by David Napier…
I will be interested to see what the lease up timeframe on this project is. Should be a good indicator on the Richmond and East End residential market. If this project has early success it could be a good sign for other slated projects.
“The sealed railroad tunnel that ran underneath Church Hill is immediately adjacent to the property, and the old tracks extend across it. White said they plan to emphasize the railroad history of the site and want to place refurbished rail cars there that offer some sort of amenities to tenants.”
this is a brilliant idea. i’ve always wondered why the tunnel was overlooked. it’s kind of a dramatic part of our history. we talk about it a lot, but no one ever knows where it is.
A few years ago, the tunnel owner attempted to drain it and open it back up. This was near 21st and Marshall. Wilder stopped them.
A writer for the RTD explored the East end of the tunnel many years ago. It prompted the sealing of the tunnel.
The end of the tunnel under Union Hill is filled with water. If the water were drained it would most likely cause the collapse of that section of the hill.
Ry they start at 875 and I am betting that is the 500 square feet knowing how Main Street Charges for Apartments.
