South of Fairmount clean-up set for April 18

Come on out and help New Visions Civic League clean up the neighborhood! Meet at the little park at 23rd, Q, and Carrington Streets on Saturday, April 18, at 8AM. Trash picker-uppers and bags have been provided by the Clean City Commission, now we need volunteers to put’em to good use!

1st Precinct CAPS meeting set for Wednesday

The First Precinct Community Assisted Public Safety (CAPS) meeting will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8 @6PM at the East District Initiative (701 N 25th St. 2nd Floor).

A proposal to add middle grades to Franklin Military

The School Board was presented a proposal (PDF) to add the middle school grades 6-8 to Franklin Military Academy. The RTD reports that “the budget for next school year includes $25,000 to implement the program” and to defray the cost of uniforms for up to 100 students.

7th District Meeting set for 4/25

The next 7th District meeting has been announced for April 25, at 10AM at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Parish Center at 3300 R Street. Hosted by City Council 7th District representative Betty Squire, expected guests include Police Chief Bryan Norwood, Commonwealth Attorney Michael Herring, Sheriff C.T. Woody, and Fire Chief Robert Creecy.

City now posting list of trees to be removed

The city’s Public Works’ Urban Forestry Division has posted their April 2009 Tree Removal List of “dead and decaying trees that could be a safety hazard to the City’s citizens”. The list of over 100 trees does not include any in the East End. [via]

BHC’s Community Day @ Beckstoffer’s

The Better Housing Coalition had their Community Day today at the former Beckstoffer’s Mill. Food was served, kids bounced in a moon bounce, community groups had tables set up, and tours were given of the now vacant mill.
