An empty block for what?
One of the last 2 structures on the 1300 block of North 24th Street was demolished today. Rumor a few years back had this block slated for commercial development (perhaps a grocery store), though nothing has been heard in a while
The lots (property) in that block are owned by the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The demolition of 1309 N 24th was approved in February with applicant Dan Hutchinson. I don’t see any land use permits for that block but there is one on T Street in the 3200 block for a 15 lot subdivision Pillars at Oakmont. May want to check with the city to see if they have plans?
Hopefully a redevelopment of the block into single-family homes is in the works. I’m guessing that RRHA is planning on developing the block when the time is right.
It’s not just that block, it’s also the one across 25th St along Nine Mile to 26th St. The house at 24th and T is in really good condition and I hope if plans change and they decide to do residential, they keep it.
I don’t know what the plans are but I know what I wish they are. I’d like part to be plotted off as “tricycle gardens east” and the rest to be planted with trees and make a winding exercise course like the one in byrd park. Now doesn’t that sound nice??
There had been talk in the past of building a new post office in that block. It looks like it will probably go commercial in the immediate area of Nine Mile Road and 25th St. I hope the rest goes residential.
let’s put a community garden there! We at Tricycle Gardens are open to it! Are there enough neighbors and community members and friends out there to make it happen? Let us know!
Grocery store a rumor, or just wishful thinking? Having a real one nearby and not having to deal with the mess that is VCU Kroger would be very welcome.
I hope they don’t build a brand new grocery store! They should rehab the old Sunny Market building – it’s right there and it’s just sitting abandoned!!!!
