East End homicides down through 1st quarter
Last year at this time, the East End had seen 8 homicides. So far this year we’ve had but 3, one each month.
- murder in Whitcomb (3/23/09)
- fatal shooting on Phaup Street (2/28/09)
- murder on T Street (1/1/05)

Seems like the fewer there are, the more you notice them. I guess that’s a good thing, but it doesn’t feel right.
Good morning, April 1, my neices boyfreind have been buried for 5 days, still no word or break in this whitcomb court killing. I see where there is a dog missing, the circle on 25th street was ready before time, still no word on anyone being captured for Walter Pages death. Well maybe someone will take it to heart of all these senseless killings and try a little harder.
In sharp contrast to the decline in violence in the East End, the RTD is reporting that
Through 4/5/08, the 1st Precinct had recorded 10 homicides, 8 of them in the East End. Through 4/5/09, the East End has still seen only 3 homicides. This decline is a continuation of last year’s drop, which saw only 3 homicides in the 1st Precinct in the last 6 months of the year.
According to the RPD’s Crime Incident Information site, here are the 1st Precinct homicide count through April 5 of each of this year and the prior seven:
2009 – 3
2008 – 10
2007 – 3
2006 – 6
2005 – 7
2004 – 10
2003 – 6
2002 – 4
2001 – 5
[...] beginning of the year. Even with this killing and the recent high-profile shooting in Union Hill, murder is still down in the End End this year from last (and last year was a good year). Last year at this time we’d had 10 [...]
