special election on Tuesday
There will be a special election on Tuesday, Jan.6, for the House of Delegates 70th District seat that was formerly held by Mayor Jones. After handily winning the Democratic primary in December, Delores McQuinn will be unopposed in the election.
Once McQuinn’s seat is resigned, City Council will accept applications and appoint a successor who will fill the seat until a special election.
Very artistically drawn district. The front vaguely looks like a women with big hair and a raised revolver. I think I know what the GA was thinking when they drew this district, but I’m not sure what they were drinking.

Looks like gerrymandering to me. Too bad she has no opposition.
She “handily” won that primary with less than 500 votes. Pretty damned pathetic.
I hate to know how you guys do on the ink blot test :-) I don’t see any of the above – just a sprawling jagged blue blob that looks like a piece of a puzzle.
I think McQuinn has done a good job as council person and I will be casting my vote of support for her on Tuesday.

Any idea where we go to vote, is it our normal polling places?
Normal polling places, I am 90% sure.
John, I agree, normal polling places – but only in the 70th General Assembly district.
Just a reminder – this election is only open to people who are registered to vote in the 70th (General Assembly) district. Part of Church Hill is included, but not all; I happen to live in the 71st which is represented by Henry Marsh. Your voter ID card identifies which district you live in. Perhaps John can give a link to the state Board of Elections site, which also helps with such identification.
The 70th General Assembly district and the 7th city council district are two entirely different districts. Ms. McQuinn represents the 7th city council district now, but she is running for election in the 70th General Assembly district, which encompasses not only part of the city of Richmond, but parts of Chesterfield and eastern Henrico as well.
Again, check your voter ID card to identify which district you are in for the General Assembly, or look at the Virginia Board of Elections website (you can google it and get a good hit the first time).

Who is “your” party? and who is “they”?
Yep…same polling places, but you should check if you are in the 70th District. West of 25th St. is the 71st. Also, most of South of Broad and Fulton Hill are the 71st.
To check your District,log on to http://conview.state.va.us/whosmy.nsf/main?openform, enter your address on the form and it will tell you if you’re in the 70th or not.
Why Vote???? She is in with no chance of loosing. That sucks…….

Jacqui at River District News has the a link to the unofficial results which shows McQuinn winning just over 84% of the vote in an election with 2.3% voter turn-out.
