2008 East End homicides are magnificently lower (UPDATED)

According to the RPD’s Crime Incident Information site, there were 13 homicides in the 1st Precinct in 2008. This is down from 16 in 2007, 30 in 2006, and 32 in 2005. Three of the 16 were south of the river.

Three details jump out: (1) Like last year, the police were consistently incredibly quick in making arrests for these incidents. (2) All 13 homicides in the East End are listed as CLEARED BY ARREST except for the Feb.11 shooting on the 1900 block of R Street. (3) Twelve of these 13 homicides occurred in the first half of the year; amazingly, since June there has only been one one killing in the East End*.

UPDATED: Three incidents that are missing from the index are a street shooting of a 19-year-old on 27th Street in November, a matricide from October in Fulton, the shooting of a 5-year-old by a 10-year-old on M Street in August.

The map below indicates all of the homicides in the 1st Precinct in 2008 according to the RPD’s Crime Incident Information site (southside addresses are in italics). The view is one step zoomed out from the regular CHPN crime map.

This is fantastic news! I wonder how on earth these significant results were achieved without Prince Rodney Monroe and his tax payer purchased farce of a VCU Degree.

This shows how community policing is making a difference. The police encourage neighborhood involvement and our involvement is producing results. Never hestiate to contact the police if you have a problem, they want you to call.

It does show how community policing can make a diffence; however the numbers are still far to high. . . . programs are needed to get our youth turned around bring an end to the unnecessary violence and hatred that is permeating the neighborhoods and especially the young people. . .

Blessings and hope everyone have a wonderful New Year!

I beleave this list is incorrect; it does not list the recent murder occurring on N. 26th street that is yet unsolved.

It is great news that the murder rate is decreasing in our fair city. It shows that the corruption is slowly being weeded out of the jails, the courts and public housing, much thanks to everyone committed to rooting out corruption.
