I see mention “matinees”. Does this mean that the original theater seating is still there and not gutted out like the East End Theater? Can we expect second run or classic movie titles being shown?
Eric
Is there contact information available for whoever is direcing this? I work with a community center on Fulton Hill and would be interested in what is going on here.
[...] to the Church Hill People’s News for sending us this info on The Hoop Up the Arts 3 on 3 basketball tournament: Come burn off those [...]
If anyone else would be interested in interpeting the following information taken from the IRS 990 form submitted to the IRS from Effective Ministries, Inc. to justify their non-profit tax status and ID #.
The following information summarizes their assetts, mission statement, programs, etc. I will have to contact the Effective Ministries, Inc. directly to fully understand the work they are doing at the Robinson Theather. However., if anyone here can correct what I found on the IRS 990 form and share it with the rest of us, I think it would be appreciated by Effectivce Ministries. Someone can ask for an explaination of their programs if they are curious about the next three projects listed on their 990 form:
1. an orphanage
2. provided 2 wells to provide drinking
water
3. ASSISTED SEVERAL EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS 501 (c) (3) WITH SUPPORT HELP SO THAT THEIR EXEMPT PURPOSES COULD BE MET AND MORE MINISTRY WORK COULD BE DONE.
Here is the detail from JustGive.org that takes financial, program and activity data from the annual IRS 990 form and puts it into a format to be easily understood by the average donor:

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007
Note: The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization’s total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered. For instance, an organization’s current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

is this the theater on 25th ?
nope. This one is on the 2900 block of Q Street.
I believe the history of the Robinson Theater was that originally there was talk of this ministry taking it over but now see an arts center going there – hence post #4.
The theater on 25th Street (East End Theater) is a shambles and don’t see how anything can be done with it? The owners saw fit to completely gut the building down to the dirt ground and doesn’t even have a roof on it – only 4 walls (a shell). Anything done to that building will need extensive work and a lot of money. Why did they gut it???? And it has sat empty for several years and as one person put it, is one big pigeon coop. I “think” there is some sort of plan in the near future for the 25th Street theater but as with other buildings within the old historic districts, zoning for parking is an issue and there is no allotted parking for it.
I am totally confused by Mary Anne’s comment. What does this have to do with the theater (not trying to be smart, I am just confused).
The Nov.20-22 issue of The Richmond Free Press has a good article about this:
via Todd Waldo with much thanks! The official unveiling of the marquee should be in the next few weeks.
What page, John? I could not find the article.
edg…
Her comment was from finding information connected with a ministry that early on was thought to have taken over the building to open yet another church not needed in that area.
And wondered how it could happen with their confusing and questionable financial statements?
